I gave up on my dreams…

Augh!!!!  Okay, now I’m getting a little ticked off at some of the choices I made in life.

This guy I used to know, Eric Trautmann, interview, and I used to write for this old pen-and-paper RPG company called West End Games.  They made “Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game”.  I helped write several of the books, did a lot of playtesting, and even wrote an adventure or two.

Somewhere along the line, I stopped writing.  The guys I used to work with have gone on to great things (some of them, like Eric).

Note to self, NEVER GIVE UP ON DREAMS!!!

I could have done more, I could have continued writing, I could have become famous (maybe).  All this leads to my current situation, overweight, mostly depressed, and constantly frustrated.

I should go to the gym 4 days a week.  I should eat less.  I should go see the doctor.  I should continue my writing.  I should make more friends.

I need to do less “should-ing” and do more “do-ing”.

I need to not give up on myself.  I can beat this.

  1. Don’t give up, ResilientMonkey. You are not alone in feeling the way you’re feeling. But this is your year. You can change everything that needs changing and make your life into whatever you want it to be. Just remember, YOU ROCK!

(Hope I didn’t sound like an infomercial there.) Here are a couple of motivational sites you might try:

  2. …forgive me; “ResilientMonkey” doesn’t ring a bell. Which books did you work on?

And yeah: you should definitely keep writing. On the plus side, I went through a nearly eight-year lull courtesy of a desk job at Microsoft — the last couple years, since leaving MS, have been ridiculously prolific.

That’s the big secret: if you want to write, then WRITE. You’ve already crossed the biggest hurdle: you’ve been published. So get to it, buddy. ;)

  3. Umm, yeah, “ResilientMonkey” didn’t write freelance for West End Games… Todd Quigley did. Mostly through a guy known as Bill Smith. He found me at a college in Binghamton NY and asked me to write for West End Games.

I did playtesting for “Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game” 2nd Edition Sourcebook, wrote one of the adventures in “Twin Stars of Kira”, and had some input on the Droids book. Don’t remember what else.

  4. Ah. I had read your post to mean we’d worked together on something, as opposed to, we contributed material to the same projects. My apologies.

I’ve been thinking about the old WEG days myself, of late (hence my wandering aimlessly into your blog), so it’s always nice to run into people who tilled the same fields.

In any event, good luck on venturing back into writing!

    Best,

    -E
